Kind of sucks. It’s baffling that there’s not an official rule in the player’s handbook for a classless character that wants to abstain from combat, and maybe persue a more mundane role in the party. There’s plenty of potential reasons why a character may not want to, or even be unable to participate in combat from a roleplaying perspective.
